Shahid Aziz, DMD, MD is a Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Rutgers University, is a Diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is also a Visiting Professor of Surgery, East West University, Dhaka, Bangladesh, is one of only 6 American trained OMS to be inducted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, and one of only two OMS who are members of the Society of University Surgeons. Shahid is an Attending Surgeon at University Hospital (Newark, NJ), St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, Paterson, NJ, Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center, New Brunswick, NJ, St Peters University Hospital, New Brunswick NJ, Morristown Medical Center, Morristown, NJ, and Hackensack University Medical Center, Hackensack, NJ. He is a graduate of the Lawrenceville School and Rutgers College. Shahid received his dental degree from Harvard University School of Dental Medicine and his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He completed his general surgery and oral/maxillofacial surgery training at New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia University Medical Center. He has authored or co-authored over 50 peer reviewed journal articles and 22 book chapters. Shahid’s clinical area of expertise includes facial trauma and reconstruction and orthognathic surgery. He currently serves as President of the New Jersey Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and Chairman of the Section of Dentistry and Oral Health of the New York Academy of Medicine. Shahid Aziz is the co-founder and President of the NJ based non-profit Smile Bangladesh. A 1st generation Bangladeshi-American, Shahid has been leading a small team of surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses to Bangladesh since 2006.
Gregg Jacob, DMD practices and is the founding member of Northeast Facial and Oral Surgery Specialists in Florham Park, NJ. Dr. Jacob is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the New York Presbyterian Hospital, Weill-Cornell Medical College in New York City where he has received the honor of Attending of the Year. He is also an active member of the Attending Staff at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown, New Jersey. His areas of clinical expertise include Orthognathic and Craniofacial Corrective Jaw Surgery, Jaw Joint (TMJ) Surgery, Obstructive Sleep Apnea Corrective Surgery, and Cleft Surgery as well as complex Implant and Maxillofacial Reconstruction Surgery and Oral Surgery. Dr. Jacob has published papers and book chapters as well as lectured extensively both nationally and internationally in these areas.


Orthognathic surgery over the last 5-7 years has evolved significantly, thanks to the development of virtual surgical planning, patient specific implants, as well as Invisalign. The speakers will review these changes, explain how these changes have streamlined the treatment plan and minimized time in the dental lab, Finally, interesting cases will be reviewed with the audience, with audience participation encouraged. 

After this course attendees will be able to:

  • Discuss how the treatment and workup for orthognathic surgery has changed because of digital technology
  • Identify the differences between clear aligners and conventional appliances for orthognathic surgery 
  • Understand how orthognathic surgery can play a major role as the final solution for obstructive sleep apnea
  • Determine how non-traditional osteotomies can be readily utilized in conjunction with surgical planning
  • Explain how mandibular distraction is a key part of treating airway obstruction in Pierre Robin Syndrome

The luncheon will be held from 12:00 - 1:15 pm.
