Rapid, point of care diagnostics are becoming more widely used to manage the Covid epidemic, and dental professionals are well-positioned to utilize such diagnostics to assist in augmenting our nation's testing capacity. Beyond this pandemic, expanded use of diagnostics can help to proactively identify health concerns that could become serious conditions. Dentists are medical professionals who are fully capable of helping, but will need to take certain predicate steps including securing licensure as a diagnostic lab under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), and accepting reporting and audit obligation to determine what types of diagnostic tests to run, and evaluate the optimal workflow for their specific practices. This course will afford attendees an overview of what is involved to bring diagnostic testing into their practices, and the types of diagnostics available for use in creating a more holistic, integrated approach to health care delivery in and through your dental office.
After this course attendees will be able to:
- Determine the important role of diagnostics to advance and integrated care delivery model
- Utilize becoming a CLIA Waived Certified Testing Site
- Understand "good laboratory practices"
- Implement different types of CLIA Waived Tests available
- Create testing, including set-up, training, and administering diagnostic testing
- Examine protocols and reporting processes
- Compare reimbursement and billing processes
