Brian Novy, DDS is the Chief Dental Officer at the Alliance Dental Center in Quincy, Massachusetts, and holds faculty appointments at three dental schools. He served on the ADA Council of Scientific Affairs 2011-2014 and was chair of the CAMBRA Coalition.

Andrea Zandona, DDS, PhD is a tenured Professor and Chair of the Comprehensive Care Department at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Zandoná is originally from Curitiba, Brazil where she received her dental degree from Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Paraná. Dr. Zandona earned her master's degree in Dental Sciences in Operative Dentistry and a PhD in Dental Sciences from Indiana University. Since 2018, she has served as chair of Comprehensive Care, the largest department at Tufts School of Dental Medicine housing almost 90 faculty members across 5 divisions, including the comprehensive care clinics where over 460 DMD and IS/DMD students provide patient care. She has published and lectured nationally and internationally on prevention and management of dental caries serving on editorial boards and as reviewer for numerous scientific and dental journals. Dr. Zandona has been part of the International Caries Detection and Assessment System Foundation Committee, has served on the European Organization of Caries Research advisory board, was President of the CAMBRA coalition and Cariology Section of the American Dental Education Association.

In this course an expert panel of cariologists will present their basis for preventive decision-making, and detail strategies for successful outcomes based upon objective case-assessment data. 

Learning Objectives:
  • Discuss the evidence for the assessment and appropriate management of dental caries
  • Describe diagnostic and assessment techniques for the earliest carious lesion
  • Understand the concept of caries management by risk assessment 
  • Identify preventive agents and therapeutics and describe their indications
  • Develop preventive regimens that are both effective and adaptable
