Jacob Dent, DDS maintains a practice in Louisiana. He is married to wife Jennifer and together they have two teenagers Jayden and Ethan. Ethan is 18 and on the Autism Spectrum. Dr. Dent’s passion for working with people with intellectual disabilities and teaching others how to best treat them comes from his most important job and role of being a dad. His goal and wish for everyone who he has the opportunity to speak to is that they can grow their confidence and knowledge around IDD and that they share their own amazing skills and talents to help serve those with special needs who so desperately need it.

As both a father of a child with autism and a dentist, I have a unique opportunity to live both sides of this challenging disability. This course will provide attendees with a first hand view of my personal and professional life living and working with my son and other individuals on the autism spectrum.

Attendees will gain a different perspective of autism,  the one from the parent point of view.

They will also learn how to effectively incorporate treating patients with autism in there practice.

After this course attendees will be able to:
  • Discuss raising a child on the autism spectrum and its challenges
  • Understand autism, its prevalence, traits, and associated behaviors
  • Explore treatment options and therapies for individuals with autism that are holistic and prescriptive
  • Identify behavior modification techniques and treatment options, as well as home care strategies for parents
Recommended Audience: Assistant, Dentist, Hygienist, Office

The GC America Inc. grant has been applied to this course.
