Maria Dona, DMD after completing her dental degree and residency in general dentistry in Romania, Dr. Dona received a scholarship and moved to United States in 2002 to continue her dental training. She earned her Master of Science degree in Oral Biology from Boston University and continued her graduate training at Harvard School of Dental Medicine, where she earned a Certificate in Periodontology and Implantology, and Doctor of Medical Science in Oral Biology Degree. She completed her Advanced Standing DMD degree at Harvard and she became the owner of Andover Periodontics. Dr. Dona is a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and she serves as Chair of the Merrimack Valley Dental District, part of the Massachusetts Dental Society

Gingival recession constitutes one of the common esthetic and functional conditions of the periodontium and can present complex treatment planning modalities. This course will review clinical data to be collected and monitored for a tooth with gingival recession as part of the periodontal evaluation or during the regular hygiene appointments. Classification of gingival recession and identification of the contributing factors responsible for gingival recession will be presented. The recommended timing for intervention and referral for treatment will be discussed. Treatment planning, which will include preventive and corrective techniques, will be reviewed. Various surgical treatment options, including classic autogenous grafts as well as allografts will be presented using clinical cases. Treatment goals, advantages, disadvantages, and limitations of various procedures will be discussed.
