Oral Cancer: An Update for the Dental Community

Alessandro Villa, DDS, PhD, MPH is the President of Oral Medicine Associates, PA and Chief of Oral Medicine, Oral Oncology and Dentistry at the Miami Cancer Institute. He is also a Professor at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. Prior to joining the Miami Cancer Institute in 2022, Dr. Villa was an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). He also directed the oral medicine residencies at UCSF and Harvard. Dr. Villa's research focuses on oral dysplasia, and oral complications from cancer therapy. He works closely with several organizations to reduce the burden of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) related cancers. He has authored more that 100 peer-reviewed articles.
This course is designed to provide oral health practitioners with an up-to-date approach to the assessment, diagnosis, and management of oral cancer. Attendees will also have the opportunity to perform oral biopsies as part of the workshop.
- Identify the current epidemiology and risk factors associated with oral cancer
- Develop the diagnosis and work-up of the oral cancer patient
- Review the management options of patients with oral cancers
- Perform oral punch biopsies
