Jim Grisdale, DDS is a Board Certified Specialist in Periodontics and Prosthodontics with a part-time private practice in periodontics and implant dentistry in Vancouver, British Columbia.

This course is designed to provide attendees with the opportunity to perform periodontal plastic surgical procedures and to recognize the key factors which determine successful periodontal plastic surgery. The indications and techniques for 

surgical treatment based upon the need to re-establish esthetics, restore a functional 

attachment, and eliminate hypersensitivity will be covered. Attendees will perform a free gingival graft and a connective tissue graft on the pig mandible and understand the differences between the two techniques. All necessary instrumentation will be provided.

In this course attendees will:
  • Diagnose and treatment plan for mucogingival problems
  • Discuss the indications for esthetic and functional periodontal plastic surgery
  • Identify differences between free gingival grafts and connective tissue grafts
  • Examine the indications and contraindications for free gingival grafts and connective grafts
  • Compare different techniques and instrumentation for successful periodontal plastic surgery
