Chia-Yu Chen, DDS received her dental degree (DDS) from Kaohsiung Medical University in Taiwan and completed her periodontology training and Doctor of Medical Science (DMSc) in oral biology from Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Chen is a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. She maintains a clinical practice limited to periodontology and implantology in the Faculty Group Practice at the Harvard Dental Center.

Lin-Hsin Chuang, DDS, MS after obtaining DDS degree from Kaohsiung Medical University, Dr. Lin-Hsin Chuang completed hospital-based PGY training and Periodontology residency in Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital. She then continued to pursue advanced education in the U.S, completing her second specialty training in Periodontology and Implantology and obtained Master’s degree with a focus in peri-implant bone research at Tufts University. Currently, she stays as full-time clinical faculty and assistant professor in Periodontology at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, supervising pre-doctoral and postgraduate clinics. She is also licensed in Maine and Vermont, working as an associate periodontist serving patients in multiple private practices.

Massimo Di Battista, DMD is a third year periodontology resident at Boston University GSDM. Before joining the program, he received his DMD in 2018 from Laval University in Quebec city as well as a GPR certificate from the University of Western Ontario in 2019. Dr. Di Battista is active in the periodontology clinic at BU GSDM as well as in the research lab, where he researched bone biology and obtained a Master’s degree in 2020. Dr. Di Battista merges both his passions for periodontology and photography by documenting photographically all his cases in a step-by-step fashion.

Elias Exarchos, DMD, MScD is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine in the Department of Periodontology. He also works in a private practice limited to periodontics and implantology based in Lexington, Massachusetts. Dr. Exarchos is the recipient of numerous awards including the merit-based Zanni Scholarship and the Morris P. Ruben Award for academics.

Kathleen Mascardo, DMD holds two dental degrees with honors from the Davao Medical School Foundation in the Philippines (DMD 2013) and from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in Philadelphia, PA (DMD 2019). She is currently a third year resident at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine pursuing a combined Master of Medical Sciences and Certificate in Periodontology.

Nader Naguib, DDS attended dental school at Cairo University’s Kasr Al Aini hospital in Egypt, the largest and oldest educational hospital in the Middle East. During his training, Dr. Naguib developed an interest in prevention, and was involved in an educational startup aiming to spread oral health awareness in underserved communities. This led him to pursue a career in periodontology at Tufts University, where he is honored to work and learn alongside influential peers and mentors from all over the world.

UNLOCKING CURRENT TRENDS IN THE FIELD OF PERIODONTOLOGY


The course will provide an overview of the latest advancements in the field of periodontology and implant dentistry. Selected representatives from the three dental schools in the Boston area (BUGSDM, HSDM, TUSDM) will review the integration of these innovations in various clinical settings to improve patient care.

After this course attendees will be able to:
  • Acknowledge the advancements in the field of periodontology and implant dentistry high-lighted by colleagues in various stages of their careers (clinicians, educators, and re-searchers)
  • Understand the innovations in the field of periodontology as presented by residents and faculty from the 3 dental schools in the Boston area (BUGSDM, HSDM, TUSDM)
  • Explore the application of these technologies to foster a person-centered care in various clinical settings (private practice, dental schools, hospitals, etc.)

The luncheon will be held from 12:00 - 1:00 pm.

•        Review the most common suturing materials used in periodontics

•        Learn about coated and uncoated sutures and how they influence the rate of post-operative infections
