According to the CDC, nearly all sexually active Americans will have a HPV infection in their lifetime. This is fueling an escalating rise in the incidence of HPV-positive oropharyngeal cancer. What are the implications to dentistry and how should our oral cancer screening be adjusted to compensate for this new profile? This interactive course will offer AirPlay mirroring of a live examination and a review of techniques both extraoral and intraorally to provide your practice with the best possible opportunity for earlier discovery of oral cancer.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand critical statistical information that every dental professional needs to know
  • Discuss the transmission of the virus and the transformation to malignancy
  • Identify the dental professional’s role in early discovery of mucosal tissue changes and potentially life-saving outcomes
  • Discern the value of adjunctive screening devices through real time demonstration
  • Be equipped with clinical and educational resources for your dental practice
  • Landmark and palpate extraoral high-risk areas
  • Review the intraoral examination related to HPV and non-HPV oral and oropharyngeal cancer
This course is also offered on Friday, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm, 421RH
