This course is offered to licensed, Registered Dental Hygienists who have already been certified in local anesthesia but feel they would benefit from instruction and review of injection landmarks and correct techniques. In addition, course instructors will share helpful suggestions for eliminating common errors and discuss how to avoid some post injection side-effects. Instructors will demonstrate proper clinical techniques through the use of various technologies. Participants will use a simulator to demonstrate correct needle placement. Since this course will be offered in Massachusetts, it is the responsibility of each attendee to understand the scope of practice for delivering local anesthesia in their respective state(s).
Speakers
In this course attendees will:
- Identify and locate the landmarks for local anesthetic injections commonly administered by dental hygienists
- Examine intricacies of the IA and palatal injections
- Employ corrective techniques for common local anesthesia administration errors
- Recognize and avoid systemic complications of local anesthesia administration
- Understand contraindications to local anesthesia utilization
- Demonstrate correct needle placement utilizing a simulator device
- Exhibit confidence in their local anesthesia administration skills
*This course is a refresher course for RDHs who have been previously certified in local anesthesia. This is not an initial certification course for local anesthesia and does not fulfill state requirements as such.
