Professional tooth whitening is one of the most requested cosmetic procedures in dentistry, yet many dental professionals have received limited hands-on training in developing a comprehensive whitening program. This participation course is designed to provide the dental team with the clinical knowledge and practical skills needed to confidently deliver safe, predictable, and successful whitening treatments from consultation through long-term maintenance.
In this course, attendees will learn the complete whitening workflow, including patient assessment, photography, shade analysis, treatment planning, professional in-office whitening, sensitivity management, and customized maintenance protocols. During the hands-on portion of the course, attendees will fabricate custom whitening trays using their own maxillary and mandibular stone models while learning proper block-out techniques, gingival barrier placement, vacuum-forming procedures, trimming, finishing, and patient delivery protocols.
Real-world clinical techniques, case selection, troubleshooting, and patient communication strategies will be incorporated throughout the course to help participants improve clinical outcomes, enhance the patient experience, and successfully integrate professional whitening into everyday practice.
*Attendees must bring one maxillary and one mandibular stone model for the hands-on custom tray fabrication exercise.
Speakers
In this course attendees will:
- Identify appropriate candidates for professional tooth whitening by evaluating medical history, clinical findings, patient expectations, and causes of tooth discoloration
- Perform standardized clinical photography, shade analysis, and treatment planning to accurately document cases and communicate expected whitening outcomes
- Demonstrate proper techniques for professional in-office whitening, including isolation, gingival barrier placement, whitening application, post-operative instructions, and patient safety protocols
- Fabricate custom whitening trays utilizing stone models while applying proper block-out techniques, vacuum-forming procedures, trimming, finishing, and patient delivery instructions
- Develop evidence-based protocols for preventing and managing whitening sensitivity, creating customized touch-up schedules, and maintaining long-term whitening results through individualized patient care
