In this course, we will consider several issues related to planning for a practice transition. While we will primarily look at the issue from the perspective of the practice seller, the course will also include information important to dentists looking to purchase a practice. We will identify the various practice transition models, including sale to a traditional buyer, sale to a group practice, sale to a DSO, and partnership models. We will develop an understanding of the practice valuation methodologies used with each transition model, including financing alternatives and a discussion of how and when payment is made. We will also cover ancillary issues related to practice transitions, such as timing, tax consequences, and putting together your professional team.
