This course is designed to review conventional and advanced medical care and manipulative treatment for management of acute temporomandibular joint dysfunction and pain. Multiple video clips will highlight what to do in a clinical setting. More importantly, the foundation of TMJ diagnosis and principles of TMJ care will be explored in detail. Topics include: Tips for conservative TMJ care. Medication prescription consideration for TMJ pain and inflammation. DIY jaw manipulation for patient with the TMJ close lock; Manual manipulation for open TMJ lock; Pros and cons of mouthguard, IMS, trigger point injection, and Botox injection therapies.

Speakers

After this course attendees will be able to:

  • Analyze the multifactorial etiology and diverse clinical presentations of Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) disorders to ensure accurate differential diagnosis
  • Formulate evidence-based triage protocols for providing remote (phone or video) patient guidance for acute morning closed-lock episodes
  • Demonstrate proficiency in manual jaw manipulation techniques for the clinical reduction of disc displacement
  • Evaluate the therapeutic indications and procedural applications of occlusal guards, Botulinum Toxin, and myofascial trigger point injections
  • Implement rigorous record-keeping standards that enhance patient longitudinal care and ensure the professional defensibility of clinical interventions
