CE Hours
In this course, attendees will learn how to navigate one of the single biggest events in most dentists' professional lives: selling or transitioning your practice, a moment most owners walk into completely unprepared. The legal complexities, the emotional weight, and the operational gaps are rarely discussed openly in dentistry.
Attendees will be led through exactly what happens during a sale, retirement, or ownership handoff, and what to be doing right now, no matter how far away that moment feels. Learn the types of exits available, the legal and financial traps that cost owners tens of thousands of dollars, and the emotional realities of stepping away from a practice you built.
Leave with a scored Transition Readiness Checklist across legal, financial, operational, and personal dimensions, so you know exactly where you stand and what to prioritize next, whether your transition is 2 years away or 15.
Speakers
After this course attendees will be able to:
- List the 5 types of dental practice exits and how to know which one is right for you
- Identify what buyers look at when valuing a practice: EBITDA, patient retention, staff stability, and systems
- Define letter of intent red flags and non-compete traps that dentists routinely sign without fully understanding
- Understand how to structure the transition so your team, patients, and legacy are protected
- Describe the identity shift: who are you after dentistry, and how do you plan for that proactively
- Determine why assembling your transition team (legal, tax, wealth, advisor) years early changes everything
- Explain how EBITDA is calculated for dental practice owners
The Earned grant has been applied to this course.
