In this course, attendees will explore how to incorporate dental lasers into the dental and hygiene practices. This easy going-fun approach will make all attendees feel comfortable whether they have never used a laser or have been using lasers and are just looking for updated/further clinical techniques. The clinical videos and hands-on demonstrations will provide a safe realistic approach to patient care and prepare attendees to start using a laser with confidence immediately!

Speakers

In this course attendees will:

  • Discover how diode lasers work, what benefits they have in clinical dentistry, and how patients can benefit from their uses
  • Demonstrate laser safety and proper protocol for the care and maintenance of diode lasers
  • Utilize pig mandibles for a realistic “feel” of how a laser works
  • Identify common clinical uses for diode lasers and how they can replace existing techniques and instruments
  • Analyze how diode lasers can be used as an adjunct to scaling/rootplaning to treat periodontal disease and discuss research backing up these claims
  • Compare expanded diode laser uses in dental hygiene, teeth whitening, TMJ and muscle pain therapy and which dental team members can provide these treatments
  • Discuss state guidelines, what is required in each state for a hygienist to use a laser

All laser treatment techniques for hygienists will comply with the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Dentistry guidelines.

Supplies Needed

Bring Lab coat/Scrubs, Loupes (optional), Diode Laser (If you have one, otherwise they will be provided.)
