Historical evolution of consolidation in the dental industry. Transition from a significantly fragmented, private practitioner-dominated market to a Dental Services Organization-led market. Articulating the benefits and pitfalls of participation in the DSO consolidation. Dispelling the rumor mill regarding DSOs, Mergers and Acquisition (M&A) market activity, and valuations. Perspectives on the next evolution of the DSO market, consolidation of the consolidators.

After this course attendees will be able to:

  • Examine the history and evolution of the dental market from private practitioner to the DSO
  • Discover the clinical, operational, and investment rationale for the emergence of DSOs and the potential value added to the practices 
  • Define different forms and styles of DSOs, equity participation by dentists in the DSO, key terms of transactions, and why they are relevant to practice owners
  • Understand how investors derive valuations and how this translates into proceeds for a selling dentist owner 
  • Compare successful DSOs with unsuccessful DSOs and discuss what drives success
