We recognize the high levels of malocclusion in children, but we often miss the connection to how unhealthy they may be. The cause of early childhood malocclusion will be explored. This course will connect the dots from underdeveloped jaws to poor breathing, poor sleep quality and the everyday symptoms that children and parents are struggling with. Ultimately, early childhood malocclusion may have a negatively effect on the child’s cardiovascular, digestive and neurological systems. The dental team is uniquely positioned to screen and treat children early.

Speakers

After this course attendees will be able to:

  • Discuss the history and origins of malocclusion
  • Identify normal and abnormal childhood head and neck development from birth to age twelve
  • Understand the effect of muscle weakness and dysfunction on the development of the maxilla and mandible
  • Compare the differences between nasal and mouth breathing
  • List the different treatment options available to kids between 3-12 years old
