BLS courses train a variety of healthcare providers, but focus on attempting to reverse pulseless arrest (death). ACLS and PALS algorithms prevent deterioration of alive patients, but most dentists either cannot perform or lack equipment/credentialed staff to perform the interventions. Further, most prefabricated “dental emergency kits” contain expensive drugs / supplies unfamiliar to dentists. To address these issues, the speaker (an AHA instructor) teaches modified workflows within the audience’s skillset. In addition to explanation and discussion, attendees will receive handouts with office supply lists and EM algorithm cards germane to dental settings.

In this course attendees will:
- Demonstrate accurate and efficient acquisition of vital signs using cost-effective, readily available equipment
- Assemble and implement a practical dental office emergency kit that can be effectively utilized by all clinical staff
- Explain the underlying pathophysiology of common medical emergencies encountered in dental practice to support appropriate clinical responses
- Establish clearly defined team roles and responsibilities to enhance coordination and performance during emergency situations
- Execute important manual emergency maneuvers with confidence after performing these skills during hands-on sessions
- Apply appropriate emergency monitoring and management strategies based on provider training level
