A thorough understanding of metabolic disease is essential for professionals managing dental disease and its complications in a growing population of patients with impaired glucose tolerance, insulin resistance, excess cellular proliferation, and increased susceptibility to infection. This course provides clinically relevant pharmacologic and scientific updates on the rapidly evolving metabolic medication landscape. Emphasis is placed on understanding how metabolic dysfunction influences health, treatment outcomes, and patient candidacy for dental procedures. Attendees will gain practical insights to better discuss, assess, manage, and support patients with metabolic disease, ultimately improving both systemic health considerations and dental treatment outcomes.

After this course attendees will be able to:
- Expand the range of medically compromised patients providers can successfully manage in the dental office
- Understand the many mechanisms that are causally linked to metabolic disease
- Gain familiarity with the various drug classes and interventions used to mitigate the causal pathways of disease
- Describe recently approved pharmacologic agents in the evolving diabetes, weight management space, and explain their clinical relevance to patient care
- Discuss emerging therapeutic targets in metabolic disease and review some investigational agents likely to receive approval in the near term
- Enable dental providers to assist patients in modifying disease trajectory and convert them into candidates for the dental treatments they desire
