Modern Periodontal Plastic Surgery: Soft Tissue Grafting and Crown Lengthening

Periodontal plastic surgery plays a critical role in managing mucogingival deformities, improving esthetics, and creating restorative-ready outcomes. This course provides an evidence-based, clinically focused overview of commonly performed soft and hard tissue procedures in contemporary practice. Attendees will learn to diagnose and classify mucogingival conditions such as gingival recession, inadequate keratinized tissue, and aberrant frenum attachments, and determine when surgical intervention is indicated. Soft tissue procedures including gingival grafting and root coverage will be reviewed alongside surgical approaches such as crown lengthening and periodontal flap procedures used to manage biologic width, restorative access, and hard tissue architecture. Hard tissue management, including ridge preservation and augmentation, will also be discussed in both tooth- and implant-related contexts.
