Oxygen/Ozone has in the United States been integrated into general dentistry for over 27 years. The scientific basis has been supported by over 724 peer reviewed articles. This form of therapy has unique properties that has multiple implications in pathogenic control in the oral cavity. These properties include anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral, and anti-parasitic. This unique property is related to the basic science of bio-oxidation. Oxygen/ozone is an oxidative treatment creating a peroxide cascade. Pathogenic forms have no anti-oxidant capacity therefore, apoptosis is induced allowing for a more favorable environment for the patient. With proper understanding and training every aspect of dental care has a implication for the integration of oxygen/ozone.

After this course attendees will be able to:
- Explain the fundamental properties, history, and clinical relevance of oxygen and ozone in healthcare and dentistry
- Describe the basic scientific principles of ozone, including its chemical structure, formation, reactivity, and biological effects
- Analyze the interactions between ozone and biological systems, including mechanisms of action, physiological responses, and therapeutic applications
- Apply principles of oxygen/ozone dosing to determine appropriate concentrations, volumes, and treatment parameters for clinical use
- Demonstrate knowledge of the primary modalities of oxygen/ozone application in dentistry, including indications, administration techniques, safety considerations, and clinical outcomes
