This informative, interactive lecture is designed for the entire dental team. Risk management involves providing safe and effective dental care while minimizing potential liability exposure. This program will review core risk management principles—communication, informed consent, and documentation—while also highlighting current, real-world drivers of risk in today’s dental practice (e.g., continuity of care, unrealistic patient expectations, technology adaptations, and managing difficult patient encounters). Participants will leave with practical, office-wide strategies that support patient safety and strengthen defensibility if a complaint or claim arises.
Speakers
After this course attendees will be able to:
- Understand the importance of effective communication in every patient encounter, including how to address complications and patient dissatisfaction
- Recognize the role of risk management for every member of the office and how office systems, staffing, and handoffs can create (or reduce) risk
- Comprehend the significance of thorough, objective documentation in preventing and defending against malpractice claims
- Master the basic principles of proper chart and record documentation, including common pitfalls in electronic records and protecting patient health information
