The Execution Gap in Dentistry

In this course, attendees will explore one of the most significant challenges facing modern dentistry: the gap between evidence-based standards of care and what patients actually experience in practice. While clinical protocols, training, and technology continue to advance, many organizations struggle to consistently execute proven standards across providers, teams, and locations. Participants will learn how the Execution Gap manifests through variation from established standards of care and variation among providers, teams, and locations operating under the same organization. The course introduces five common organizational dysfunctions that prevent standards of care from becoming standard practice: unclear standards, competing priorities, poorly designed workflows, ineffective performance management, and lack of organizational alignment. Using real-world examples, attendees will learn to quantify the patient care and earnings opportunities hidden within these gaps and identify where execution failures create the greatest impact. The course concludes with a practical framework for prioritizing high-impact, low-effort initiatives that produce measurable results. Attendees will leave able to identify execution gaps, estimate their impact, and select one initiative to implement immediately to improve both patient care and organizational performance.
