For the past decade new mothers are being heavily encouraged to nurse their newborns. This swing in popularity of this feeding method have brought to light the impact of subtle tongue and lip mechanics. Is it the "tongue tie" or tension with in the facia layer that is causing the problem? Does frenectomy even work? Decades of literature supports the efficacy of infant frenectomy and what is needed in the comprehensive exam and treatment that improves predictability of symptom resolution.

After this course attendees will be able to:
- Define the difference between a normal frenulum and a tie
- Incorporate a classification system to identify functional deficits
- Identify a tongue and lip tie
- Review the literature surrounding infant frenectomy and symptom relief
- Incorporate a structured framework of step-by-step instructions, and diagnostics flow for frenectomies
- Understand the importance of a multidisciplinary team in treating ties
- Recognize when to treat and when to refer
- Understand the mechanics of nursing and how frenectomy can benefit those with restrictions
