is the Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Development and Affairs and Professor of Surgery at the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences and the University of Toledo Medical Center. He has over 35 years of experience in providing surgical care for patients with benign and malignant tumors of the oral cavity, salivary glands, jaws, neck, and oropharynx, as well as for patients with complications of cancer therapy, including osteonecrosis of the jaws. He obtained his dental degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his medical degree from the University of Miami. He performed his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency training at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, his general surgery training at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, and his fellowship training in oral/head and neck tumor surgery at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. He obtained his master’s degree in education with a concentration in faculty development at Harvard University. Dr. Carlson is a fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
