Restorative Endodontics in the Adhesive Age 


In this course, attendees will explore the modern endodontist’s expanding role beyond cleaning, shaping, and filling canals. A beautifully disinfected root canal is not yet a finished case; it is a well-prepared foundation that needs immediate protection. This course focuses on adhesive reconstruction in one of dentistry’s most uneasy territories: the narrow, deep, chemically altered root canal space, where bonding is technically demanding and polymerisation shrinkage is not exactly your best friend.


The course will follow a step-by-step clinical protocol: assessment of remaining tooth structure, protection or removal of compromised dentine, management of sodium hypochlorite–affected dentine, adhesive conditioning of the access cavity and canal entrance, selection of fibre posts when indicated, placement of slow-setting dual-cure core composite, delayed light activation, and final shaping of the adhesive build-up for the definitive restoration.


Special attention will be given to tissue preservation, biomimetic replacement of lost structures, reliable adhesion, stress transfer, configuration factor, and fail-safe design because losing a restoration is disappointing, but losing the tooth is considerably less charming. The aim is to show how endodontic treatment and adhesive restoration can become one continuous, biologically, and mechanically coherent procedure.

After this course attendees will be able to:

  • Explain the changing role of the endodontist in the adhesive age, where successful treatment depends not only on disinfection and obturation, but also on immediate coronal sealing and long-term restorative stability
  • Identify the structural challenges of endodontically treated teeth, including loss of dentin, altered stress distribution, high configuration factor, and the risks created by narrow, deep access cavities
  • Describe a step-by-step adhesive reconstruction protocol after root canal treatment, from assessment of remaining tooth structure to final shaping of the core build-up for the definitive restoration
  • Discuss how to manage root canal dentin as an adhesive substrate, including smear layer control, sodium hypochlorite–affected dentin, deproteinized dentin, moisture control, and the choice of adhesive strategy
  • Evaluate the indications for fiber post placement as part of an adhesive core build-up, with emphasis on stress distribution, tissue preservation, post length, post diameter, and fail-safe behavior
  • Apply material and polymerization strategies, including slow-setting dual-cure core composites, delayed photoactivation, and proper light-curing protocols to reduce shrinkage stress and improve the longevity of endodontically treated teeth
