More Than a Scaler: Building a Hygiene Leader in Your Practice

Your hygienist is often the clinician who shapes how patients understand their oral health, yet most practices never give that role room to grow. The dental hygienist sets the tone for prevention, translates diagnosis into language patients actually act on, and reinforces the standard of care across every visit. When a practice helps a hygienist step into that leadership role, patient trust, treatment acceptance, and preventive outcomes all improve.

This course shows general dentists and their teams how to build a hygiene leader inside their own practice. We will look at where the leadership opportunities live in the hygiene visit and across the care team, how a private practice can use its own hygiene metrics to see where prevention is working and where it is not, and how consistent clinical recommendations between the dentist and the hygienist drive patient trust. We will also spend time on the modern tools that support this work, including AI-assisted diagnostic imaging, patient-facing visualization, and AI documentation tools, and how they help the team catch disease earlier and make prevention easier for patients to understand.

Participants will leave with a practical picture of what a hygiene leader does, how to support one, and how today's diagnostic and home-care tools fit into a prevention-first approach to general dentistry.
