Samson Ng, DMD, MSc is a broad certified specialist in oral medicine and oral and maxillofacial pathology, a clinical assistant professor of dentistry, University of British Columbia, and attending staff at the Vancouver General Hospital Department of Dentistry.

This course will discuss various aspects of oral cancer important to an oral care

provider. Clinical presentation of different stages of oral pre-cancer will be discuss in detail. It will introduce technologies such as visualization devices and quantitative cytology, as well as conventional histopathology for assisting oral care providers in early detection and diagnostic workup of patients with suspicious oral (pre-) malignant lesions. At last, it will explore the topics of HPV-related oral lesions and cancer.

After this course attendees will be able to:
  • Explain the epidemiology of oral cancer
  • Review clinical science and presentation of oral cancer
  • Identify the role of oral care providers in oral cancer diagnosis
  • Understand screening and diagnostic work-up for oral pre-cancer lesions
  • Discuss HPV- related oral lesions and other cancer
